After the inception of the men's ice hockey team eight years ago and with the women's program only five years young, the Neumann Knights are finally getting the respect that they have longed for over the past few years. Both teams, under new influence, have led the Knights to multiple firsts in 2005-2006 including dual Goalie of the Year accolades.
On the men's side Neumann Knight Mike Collichio has earned the ECAC West Goalie of the Year titled while teammate Neil Trimm joined him on the all-conference first team register. Freshman forwards Mike Hedden and Kyle Casey were selected by league coaches to the all-rookie team rounding out the Knights' honors. All in all it has been a successful season for the Knights. The women (12-9-2, 6-5-1 ECAC West) are just one game away from becoming the winningest team in school history, currently tied with the 2003-2004 record of 12 wins (12-10). Senior captain Lindsay Parsons has recorded an incredible 111 career points and counting as the Knight get set to enter into SUNY Plattsburgh's arena on Saturday, March 04, 2006 for their third consecutive playoff bout. Though the Neumann Knights men's team fell short of their first ever playoff appearance by two games, it was an exciting year to be a Knights' fan. The men have seen much improvement over the last year and a half, earning their best record in program history with a 14-10-1 record. For their efforts the Knights were awarded their first ever USCHO ranking on January 30, and a NCAA Division-III ranking (15th) on February 14, 2006. Both teams have proven that anything can happen when you combine great team effort with discipline, hard work and determination. The future looks bright for these two teams, proving that the best lessons are learned not from where you are, but from how you got there and where you've been and where you plan to go.
