ASTON, Pa. - Neumann Knights volleyball player Kristen Verone and men's soccer player Zach Sell have been named PAC players of the Week for week ending October 21.
The Folsom, Pa. native helped the Knights continue their 10-game win streak and PAC undefeated streak after the team beat both Cedar Crest and Rosemont 3-0 and the University of Scranton and Baptist Bible 3-1. For the week, Verone averaged 46.5 assists, 4.75 service aces and 10.75 digs. She received PAC Player of the Week Honorable Mention honors once in 2006 and as a freshman in 2005 however, this is her first Player of the Week selection. Neumann Knights' freshman midfielder Zach Sell (Baltimore, Md. /Loyola Blakefield) started in all three games last week and scored one goal in each game including three against Centenary College on Oct. 10. In a 3-2 loss to Rowan Zach scored the Knights' first goal which got the team back in the game after a 3-0 first half deficit. In the Knights' 4-1 win at Centenary he dominated midfield play and created opportunities for others, while collecting three goals for his first career hat trick. In a 2-2 tie against the 2006 PAC Champions, Misericoridia University, Zach scored the Knights' second goal of the day and helped to lead Neumann to their first ever PAC playoff birth. For the week, Zach scored 5 goals in three games and was a dominate force on the playing field. This is Sell's first Player of the Week selection. The Neumann College volleyball team will close out conference play on Tuesday at Eastern University. Both team's are undefeated in the conference and will be rallying for the top spot in the PAC. Men's soccer will face non-conference rival Wesley College on Wednesday at home before closing out the regular season against Eastern in a PAC match up on Saturday. |
