CHESTERTOWN, MD - The Neumann Knights baseball team divided the twin bill  at Washington College, 7-3, 0-3, on Saturday afternoon at Athey Field in their first match up of the 2006 season.

Patrick Boggs got the victory for Neumann on the hill, throwing four innings while striking out seven Washington batters in game one. Craig Steve Maloney paced the Knights going 1-for-4 with a run scored, including a key two RBI single in the fourth inning, keeping the game out of reach for the Shoremen. Washington's defense committed five errors in game one, as all but two runs scored by the Knights were unearned. Sophomore Wes Anderson (Walkersville, MD/Walkersville) started game one on the mound for the Shoremen and struck out five while giving up five unearned runs in four innings. Junior Mike DeBartolome (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown Smith) went two-for-four in the game with two runs batted to lead the Shoremen offense.

In the second game Neumann's sole hit by Ryan Nason, a two-out double, in the fourth inning was not enough as Washington College played better defense and got a stellar pitching performance from Swanson in game two, defeating the Knights, 3-0.

Neumann will return to action Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. when they will be hosted by Lincoln University.
