March 31, 2006

Box Score

The Neumann Knights baseball team hosted the Pacers of Marywood University in the first of a three game season series this afternoon on the Bruder Field in Aston, Pennsylvania. In the PAC match up the Knights closed the gap on the Pacers but could not overcome an early two run lead. In the end the Knights fell to the Pacers 4-3.

The Pacers took an early two run lead in the top of the second inning when a 2-RBI single by D'Antonio scored Kromko and Fidati. Neumann held the PAC rival at two through the third and fouth and fifth innings. The Knights struggled to make strides of their own until the bottom of the fifth when a double by Steve Maloney scored Christopher Dascher for their first run of the day making, it a 3-1 ball game.

Neumann's Dascher started of the seventh inning with his second hit of the day, a double down the left side line, giving the Knights a needed push. After advancing to second on a wild pitch and completing the trip home on two consecutive walks, Neumann was in good position. A Kevin Ahern singled added to the Knights score as the junior first basemen batted in Maloney for a 4-3 tally. However, the Knights run was cut short when Ryan Nason flied out to right field ending the Knights run and the game in favor of Marywood 4-3.

Neumann will continue its season series with the Pacers on Saturday, April 1 in Scranton, Pennsylvania at 12:00 p.m.
