28 Phil Kelly (SR/Conshohocken, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh)

Baseball Falls to Wesley, 11-3

April 5, 2007

Aston, PA - On Thursday, April 5 Neumann College (2-13, 2-7) lost to Wesley College (18-7, 7-3) 11 - 3 in their first meeting in conference play.

Phil Kelly started on the mound and pitched outstanding.  In 6 innings Kelly struck out 6 and allowed only 4 runs.  The Knights hurt themselves committing 5 errors on defense and were held to 3 hits; two of which came off of Marc Torriero's (2-3, BB, 1 run, and 1 SB) bat.  Dave Dragone was credited with 2 rbi for the Knights.  Torriero scored their first run when Dragone was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the 2nd inning.  Dragone's second rbi was on a fielders choice with the bases loaded in the 5th.

The Knight's started to rally in the 8th getting their first two batters of the inning around to score.  With Martez Hagans on third (PR for Ahern after lead off single) and Torriero on first, Dave Thompson hits a soft ground ball to third base scoring Hagans who was running on contact.  Neumann could not catch a break ending the inning and their scoring when Phil Backert hit a hard line drive up the middle to double up Torriero at second.

The Knights will be hosting Wesley College on Monday, April 9 at the Bruder Fields at 12:00 p.m. in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference match-up.
