April 17, 2006

Box Score

Strong pitching performance by Nick Lapetina and Tim DeFilippis dominated the diamond Monday as the Neumann baseball team split a doubleheader with Wesley, winning the opener, 7-3, while falling short in the nightcap, 4-3.

In the first game, Neumann's Nick Lapetina took to the mound pitching a complete-game four hitter. The sophomore struck out four in game one, pitching a five inning shut out and leading the Knights to the 7-3 victory.

The Knights had 10 hits in the victory and scored three times in the third to take a 3-1 lead. Christopher Dascher got the inning going with a fielder's choice and then advance to third on a passed ball. Teammate Josh MacDonald singled, scoring Dascher and Marc Torrerio followed suit with a left line single. Torrerio advanced on an error which scored MacDonald for the second run of the inning and a Kevin Ahern capped the uprising with an RBI-single, scoring Torrerio for the final run of the inning.

The Knights shut down Wesley in the fourth and the fifth innings while adding one run in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth for a 7-1 lead. The Wolverine did make a late 2-run comeback but it was not enough to close the gap on the Knights.

In the night cap Tim DeFillipps got the started and took the loss Neumann, going six innings and allowing six hits and four runs, while walking three and striking out two.

Neumann had five hits, one each by Mendell, Thompson, Dascher, Jordan and Backert.
