Knights Close out Regular Season at Haverford

May 1, 2007

Box Score

Aston, Pa. - Neumann traveled to Haverford College this afternoon for a non-conference match up with the Fords. In the match up Neumann held a 1-0 lead through the top of the fourth but a three run seventh inning gave Haverford the edge over the Knights 7-6.

Neumann's Kevin Ahern started things off for the Knights with a solo homerun in the top of the second inning. Neumann held Haverford at bay until the bottom of the fourth when Haverford's Stephens singled through the left side and then stole his way home. Haverford went up 2-1 before closing out the fourth inning after a RBI double scored Crabtree for the Ford's second run of the day.

Brian Chesnick scored for Neumann in the fifth after advancing to first on a base on balls. He was hit home by Steve Marucci who grounded out to the shortstop but was able to bat Chesnick home to record the tying run.

Haverford added one more in the bottom of the fifth to take over the lead but singles by Keith Mastronardo, Ahern and Chesnick tied the game at 3-3.

A 2-run homerun followed by a left field double and a right side single gave the home team some breathing room with a 6-3 lead in the bottom of the seventh.

Both teams added one more in the eighth inning and Neumann answered back in the top of the ninth with runs scored by Dave Dragone and Jason Vilimas but it was not enough to overtake the Fords.

Neumann closes out the regular season 2-28 and 2-18 in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference.
