Neumann Knight Spring Trip Highlights

March 4, 2005

Spring Trip - February 28 - March 4, 2005

Clearwater, Florida-Neumann's Patrick Boggs (Bowie/Bowie, MD) earned his first win of the season and leads the Knights to a 6-0 season opening win in Clearwater, Fl., against Catholic University.

Boggs pitched six innings giving up only 2 hits before newcomer James Jordan (Monsignor Bonner/Upper Darby, PA) and sophomore Jeremy Micun (Sun Valley/Aston, PA) added strength at relief giving up only one hit each to shut down the Cardinals in nine innings.

Offensively the Knights had five hits in the shutout and were led by junior captain Matt Backert (Rising Sun/North East, MD) who recorded his first double of the season. Sophomore outfielder Brian Chesnick (DeMatha/Catholic Bowie, MD) had 3 RBI's, off a walk and a base hit, while Ryan Aberts (Cardinal O'Hara/Aston, PA), David Thompson (Paul VI/Sicklerville, NJ), and Kevin Ahern (Cardinal O'Hara/Parkside, PA) were also able to connect for hits in today's win.

The Knights will take the field again tomorrow March 1, 2005, when they will face University of Dubuque in a double header starting at 10:30 AM.

Clearwater, FL.- 3-4-05 The Neumann Knight's stole a win in the 10th inning as they downed Johnson & Wales University 4-3. Neumann received offensive help from Eric Schonewolf (Bishop Eustace/Pennsauken, NJ) who went 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Defensively the Knights communicated well as James Jordan (Monsignor Bonner/Upper Darby, PA), threw out an opposing runner at home from left field in the bottom of the second to prevent Johnson & Wales from taking the lead. Another runner was tagged out by the treo of Schonewolf, Christopher Gallagher (Roman Catholic/Philadelphia, PA) and Ryan Nason (Paul VI/Voorhees, NJ), who threw out the go ahead run for JWU at third base in the bottom of the ninth. Neumann's Schonewolf proved it was his day as he scored the go a head run for the Knights giving them the 4-3 win in the tenth.

Clearwater, FL.- 3-5-05 Pat Boggs (Bowie/Bowie, MD) made it 2-0 on the year pitching 8 innings, giving up 5 hits and 2 runs, only one of which was earned, while striking out five and walking one, to lead the Knights to a 6-3 victory over the Milwaukee School of Engineering this morning. John Lafferty (Cardinal O'Hara/Glenolden, PA) completed the 9th inning giving up one hit and one run while striking out two.

Offensively Josh MacDonald Hodgson Vo-Tech/ Newark, DE) went two for three with four RBI's and a double while freshman Christopher Martinez (St. Augustine Prep) was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and a RBI, earning the Knights their third win of the season and completing their Spring trip to Clearwater, Flordia 3-5.

The Knights are scheduled to take the field at home for the first time this season on Monday, March 7, 2005, when they will host Philadelphia Biblical University in a non-confernce match up on the Bruder Fields in Aston, PA. The first pitch will be thrown out at 3:00 PM.
