Neumann Falls Short to Rowan, 79 - 68

Jan. 6, 2007

Box Score

The Neumann College Knights (6-5) came up short against the Profs of Rowan College (9-2) 79-68 in non-league men's basketball action at the Bruder gymnasium in Aston, Pennsylvania this afternoon.

Rowan dominated the first 10 minutes of the half by moving the ball down court and getting easy baskets.  They had a 12 point lead with just over 7 minutes left in the half only to have Neumann come all the way back and tie the game on a three by Derahn Patrick, with 2:34 to go to cap off an 8-point run.  DJ Fritz led the team with 13 points in the half, and made two key baskets towards the end of the half to keep Neumann in the game.  Thomas Baker led Rowan, and all scorers, with 17 points.

After Neumann tied the game, Rowan finished the half by making 3 shots from the foul-line to give them a 39-36 lead at half.

Rowan again started the second half just like they did the first.  The Profs came out dominating and getting easy baskets early. With strong defense from James Swiggett and Eli Hitchens and the shooting of Derahn Patrick and D.J. Fritz Neumann climbed back into the game.   Then with 6:57 left in the second half, D.J. Fritz tied up the game with a three pointer from the arc.

After Neumann tied the game, Rowan regained control, scoring 11 unanswered points by Tim Bowser, Matt Byrnes, and Thomas Baker. From there Rowan took control moving the ball around quicker, in bounding the ball better, and once again getting the easy basket when needed.

D.J. Fritz scored a team high 27 points and Derahn Patrick added 23 as the Neumann College Knights fell short 79-68 to Rowan University.  The Profs were led by Thomas Baker with a game high 28 points in the win.

Neumann will return to action on Thursday, January 11, against College Misericordia. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m. at Neumann College.
