Knights Snap Seven-Game Losing Streak with 65-62 Win at Marywood

Jan. 12, 2008

Box Score

Aston, Pa. - In their first of a 13-game conference slate the Neumann College Knights men's basketball team snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 65-62 win over Marywood University Saturday evening. With the win Neumann improves to 4-8 overall and 2-3 in the PAC while the Pacers fall to 5-5 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

Marywood started the game with a 9-0 run over the game's first four minutes and held the lead for most of the first half.  However, Neumann used a pair of 7-0 runs of their own to eventually take the lead.  The first began with 12:59 to play in the half and brought the score to 16-15 in favor of the Pacers, while the second gave Neumann their first lead of the contest with just 1:57 to play in the half.

The two teams swapped the lead five times the rest of the half, the last coming on a running three pointer by the Knights' Na'Sheed Linton as the horn sounded and gave the visitors a 32-31 halftime lead.

The Pacers would retake the lead early in the second half when Joshua Pena hit a three-pointer to make the score 36-35.  However, the Knights would outscore Marywood 16-5 over the next 6:22 to take a 10-point lead.

Marywood battled back and narrowed Neumann's lead to just 2 points with 2:50 remaining in the game, but that is as close as the Pacers would come as the Knights rattled of a 7-0 run over the next two minutes to put the game out of reach.

Eli Hitchens led Neumann with a game and career-high 22-points and six rebounds, while Derahn Patrick contributed 14 points and five rebounds.  Linton rounded out the game's double-digit scorers with a 12 point, four assist effort.

Marywood was led by Medici who finished the afternoon with 17 points and seven rebounds, while Joshua Pena added 14 points and three assists.

Neumann will return to action on Thursday when they will host Immaculata University at 8:00 p.m.
