Box Score

Aston, Pa. -The Knights snapped Misericordia University's undefeated conference record in a thrilling 72-67 overtime victory at Bruder Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.  The Knights started off strong taking a 13-0 lead in the first five minutes of play.  However, the Cougars came roaring back, but it was not enough to hold off the Knights.  Neumann was lead by DJ Fritz with 26 points and 6 assists while Derahn Patrick added 21 points and 4 rebounds.

"This was a great team win, each player stepped up at different points of the game, when Misericordia came back into the game we played hard, played smart, and played with class. We executed the game plan with great success," stated Head Coach Mike Gallagher in a post game interview.

The Knights jumped out to a quick 13-0 lead in the first half to cause a quick timeout by Misericordia.  After the time out Misericordia settled down and started to get back into the game.  A Vinny Baumunk three pointer with 3:37 left in the half tied the game for the first time at 21.

Misericordia then went ahead and took the lead, 26-25, behind the efforts of Ryan Roa who scored five points for the visitors in the final minutes of the half.

The Cougars took that momentum into the second half taking their largest lead of the game 37-29 with 12:32 left to play.  The Knights regroup behind the leadership of Na'Sheed Linton and Eli Hitchens and started to get back into a rhythm.  Thomas Davis provided a much needed spark off the bench and a layup at 7:32 gave the Knights their first lead of the second half, 43-42, with 6:42 on the clock.

The Cougars answered back and took a 4 point lead going into the last minute of play.  Then, DJ Fritz took over and provided the Knights with six straight points to tie the game with 00:04 left to play, sending the game into overtime.

The Knights dominated in overtime.  Fritz and Patrick hit two three pointers to start off play and Marquise Boggs sank two free throws to give the Knights a six point lead, 64-68.  Misericordia could not answer and a couple of Derahn Patrick free throws clinched the game for the Knights 72-67.

The Knights look to continue their winning ways at Eastern University this Monday with an 8:00 pm tip off.
