Neumann Out Plays Wesley 82-62

Jan. 27, 2007

Box Score

The Neumann Knights men's basketball team (8-3 PAC, 11-7) outscored the Wolverines (4-7 PAC, 6-12) of Wesley College 82 - 62, in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference match up at the Bruder Gymnasium in Aston, Pa.

The Knights scored first on a hard earned basket by James Swiggett, who was key in disrupting the Wolverines offense in the first half.  The defense for Neumann did a good job containing the Wesley's offense, causing turnovers when needed.

DJ Fritz and Ronnie Fields helped the Knights get a jump start early in the first half hitting three 3-pointers in a row.  With 12:03 on the clock, Nasheed Linton forced a turnover and then passed the ball to Derahn Patrick who dunked the ball an ignited a Neumann scoring streak.  Derahn Patrick was hot in the first half scoring 17 points, giving the Knights an edge at the end of the first half 40-31.

In the second half the Knights showed no signs of letting up, everything they did seemed to help them expand their lead.  Neumann's defense caused problems for Wesley's offense all game, forcing turnovers and causing fouls.  James Swiggett (8 rebounds) played stellar defense making it hard for the Wolverines to score on the inside.

On offense the Knights found the open seams and took advantage of them. Ronnie Fields' 23 points led the Knights offense on a tear in the second half.  Derahn Patrick (19 points, 6 rebounds) and DJ Fritz (16 points, 8 assists) also contributed on offense helping the Knights to victory.

The Knights next match up will be a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference game at Immaculata University on January 29 at 8:00.
