Feb. 7, 2008

Final Stats

ASTON, Pa.  - The Neumann men's basketball team took on the number one team in the PAC, the Mighty Macs of Immaculata University, this evening for a 7:00 p.m. game held at the Bruder Gymnasium.

The game's pace was quickly set with swift action at both ends of the court.  The score remained intensely close, with the exception of Immaculata's first point; the Neumann Knights controlled the scoreboard for the majority of the first half.  The game headed into half-time with a tied score of 36-36, while Neumann's DJ Fritz had 9 points and Eli Hitchens recorded 7 on the half.

The Knights came out strong in the second half but the Mighty Macs took a quick lead within the first couple minutes of play.  Neumann answered back and brought the game to another tight score with back and forth action down the court.  The score remained within one point right until the conclusion of the game, with Immaculata pulling away with the lead by a score of 63-62.  The conclusion of this game leaves Neumann with an overall record of 8-12 and a conference record of 6-6.

Eli Hitchens concluded the game with 16 points overall; DJ Fritz and James Swiggett both had 9 points on the night.

The Knights will be back in action on Saturday, February 9 when they host PAC competitors Alvernia College at 3:00 pm.

During half-time, the Women's Volleyball team was recognized for their remarkable 2006-2007 season.  The volleyball team closed out their season with a 23-11 record overall and earned the program's first PAC Championship and NCAA berth.   Players, coaches, administrators and fans put their hands together in the Bruder gymnasium to celebrate the team's success.
