ASTON, Pa. -- In the first PAC match up for both the Neumann Knights and the Cabrini Cavaliers, held at the Bruder Gymnasium in Aston, Pa., the Knights recorded a 53-45 victory. The Knights broke the game away midway through the second half with an 11-point run and a stellar defensive performance holding Cabrini to its lowest point total all season at 45. Cabrini came out strong in the opening minutes of play taking a 6-point lead behind a Lamar Fisher layup and a Glenn Washington 3-point basket. The Cavaliers took their largest lead of the half at the 10-minute mark (15-7), proving to be a worthy Knight opponent. Neumann took advantage of a 30-second Cabrini time out, returning to the court for an 8-point run behind two three-pointers by Eli Hitchens and Derahn Patrick. A lay-up by Marquise Boggs tied the game at 15 with 4:39 left to play. Mike Hitchens gave the Knights the lead after going to the line and shooting two after a foul was called on Cabrini's Rodney Collins. The two teams battled back-and-forth for the remaining 3-minutes, before a three-pointer by Cabrini's Ryan Oxley put the Cavaliers ahead, 23-20, going into halftime. After the break, the Cavaliers took a 28-20 lead midway through the second half until the Knights offense started to gain momentum. The Knights started to catch fire behind Benjamin Whitt and Derahn Patrick going on a 13-5 run taking the lead at 33-31. The Cavaliers knotted the score at 35-35 until the Knights went on an 11-point run to take a 46-35 lead. Chris Canty had 3 points during the run and Benjamin Whitt provided 4 points for the Knights. Neumann would not look surrender the leads again as they held off the Cavaliers for a 53-45 victory in the PAC match-up. After the game Head Coach Mike Gallagher stated "It was a great team win, and the kids believed in each other and played together as a team." The Knights were led by Benjamin Whitt with 17 points and Derahn Patrick had 16. Thomas Davis led the team highs in rebounds with 7 and assists with 3. The Knights will be back in action Saturday, December 1st at College of Misericordia for a PAC conference match-up. |
