Dec. 4, 2007

Box Score

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. - Despite hitting a season high 11 three-pointers in 40:00 minutes of play the Neumann College Knights were defeated by the Griffins of Gwynedd Mercy College, 82-77, in PAC play Monday Evening.

Neumann took an early lead in the first few minutes of play behind two-three pointers by Derahn Patrick and Eli Hitchens. That would be the last lead the Knights would hold as Gwynedd Mercy would tie the game (10-10) at the 13-minute mark.

The Griffins took over the lead seconds later behind a three-pointer by Tom Keenhan which sparked a 14-2 run doubling the Griffins score over the Knights, 24-12, with just over 10-minutes left to play in the first half.

The Knights battled back and came within four points of the lead, with less than a minute to play in the first half, behind 10-points from Patrick, a three-pointer by Benjamin Whitt and field goals by Na'Sheed Linton and Thomas Davis. However, the Griffins closed the half on a 6-point run and held the edge 42-32 going into halftime.

The Knights found themselves down 16 midway through the second half and ran in to foul trouble down the stretch. The Griffins (5-1, 2-0 PAC) held an 11-point lead with just over five minutes remaining before the Knights (3-3, 1-2 PAC) rallied with a 14-5 run to get within two, 79-77, with 1:22 left. Whitt scored eight points in a row to help the Knights turn a 10-point hole into a two-point game.

Derahn Patrick was one of four Neumann players in double figures, scoring 20 points. He and teammate Benjamin Whitt (16 points) combined to hit eight of the Knights' 11 three-pointers on the night. Eli Hitchens scored 15 points and Thomas Davis rounded out the Knights' top four with 13 points.

The Knights are back in action on Wednesday with a non-league game at Rowan University starting at 7 p.m.
