Fritz lead the Knights with 23
The Knights Breeze Past the Cyclones

Feb. 20, 2008

(Hackettstown, NJ)In their final game of the season the Neumann College men's basketball team took on PAC rival Centenary College in the second half of a double-header with the women. The meeting against Centenary again ended in the Knights favor as they breezed past the Cyclones by a score of 85-76.

The two teams traded the lead for the majority of the first half, with neither team taking control. Ten minutes in the game was still neck and neck and with three minutes Centenary's Kyle Boone hit a three pointer to knot the game up once again at 36.  As time wound down in the half, with lay-ups from Mike Hitchens and Eli Hitchens and a 3 pointer from DJ Fritz, the Knights were able to gain a small advantage by extending their lead to seven going into the break.

The second half began with the Knights extending their lead to ten early into play.  The Cyclones continued to trail for the next ten minutes as Neumann continued to increase the deficit.  Down by 20 with less than nine left to go, the men struggled to keep the ball away from the Knights and get points on the board.  A three at 4:54 by senior Josh Davidson (Beesley's Point/Ocean City) sparked the crowd but was not able to ignite the run that the men needed to close the gap.  The final buzzer sounded with Centenary still behind by nine.

For the Knights, DJ Fritz paced the team with 26 while teammate Derahn Patrick tallied 23.  Eli Hitchens notched a double-double for the Knights putting 10 points and 11 rebounds on the board.

The Knights' playoff hopes are on hold until after a match-up between Immaculata University and Eastern University this Friday night. If Eastern wins on Friday, the game against Centenary will have been the Knight's last game. However, if Immaculata is able to win at home on their senior night Friday, Neumann will be in the playoffs. The opponent will be determined on Saturday morning.

Head Coach Mike Gallagher and his Knights finish the regular season 10-14 overall, and 8-8 in the PAC.
