2007 St. Francis and Clare award winner - Matt LaPenta

Mark Van Vliet Named MVP at 2007 Men's Golf Banquet

May 15, 2007

Aston, Pa. - Neumann junior Mark Van Vliet was named the Most Valuable Player at the men's golf team's annual banquet. The All-PAC first-team selection also claimed the team's lowest scoring average of 78.57 for 7.0 rounds played this year.

Van Vliet notched four top-10 finishes this year, including a first-place finish at the 2007 PAC Championships and the 2007 Neumann College Invitational where he helped guide the Knights to a first-place finish as a team.

Senior Matt LaPenta was presented the St. Francis and Clare Award. This award, which is presented to the individual who made significant contributions to the well-being of the team in terms of attitude, improvement and leadership, is one of the highest honors to be given to a Knight. LaPenta recorded an 84.43 average this season and was a constant leader both on and off the course.

At the conclusion of the night the Neumann Knights celebrated their second-place finish in the 8-team PAC Championship and Head Coach Frank Sill, who was awarded 2007 PAC Coach of the Year honors.
