Phil Roy joined the staff of the Neumann Knights and became the third men's ice hockey head coach at Neumann College in August, 2007.

Roy (pronounced " Wah") skated as a defenseman for the Clarkson University Golden Knights from 1996 to 2000 where he recorded 77 career points, on 24 goals and 53 assists, in 144 games. He played an integral role in the team's two, first-place finishes, in league standings, three NCAA tournament appearances and two ECAC tournament championships all while earning his undergraduate degree in technical communications.

After leaving the University, Roy spent five years playing professional hockey in North America and Europe. He served as an assistant captain and assistant coach for the Diables Noirs de Tours, a member of the France Elite League, where he led the league in points by a defenseman. He was also an assistant coach and a captain in the United Kingdom Elite League (EIHL) with the Basingstoke Bison. Prior to his European career Coach Roy was member the Johnstown Chiefs and Augusta Lynx teams in ECHL. Roy also played for the St. John Flames and Cleveland Barons in the American Hockey League. At the conclusion of his inaugural professional season (2000-2001) Roy was named team Rookie of the Year by the Muskegon Fury and was selected to the UHL All-Rookie Team.

Phil Roy made his debut in the men's hockey coaching world when he accepted a position as the assistant of the Hobart College Statesmen prior to the 2005-06 season. During his tenure there, the Statesman captured the record for most wins in a season, their first Frozen Four appearance and second berth into the NCAA Tournament in program history. He mentored the program's first All-American defenseman and was a member of the coaching staff that garnered 6 All-ECAC West selections, 14 All-ECAC West Academic Honorees and 1 ESPN All-Academic First Team award winner. He was also a member of the 2006 coaching staff which received Coach of the Year honors by the ECAC West organization.

Phil and wife Sonia Roy celebrated their first wedding anniversary and have a daughter Mackaelie who was born in October.
