Erik Stoyanvich score the Knights' lone goal in the second period.

Knights Falter against Utica, 3-1

Nov. 18, 2007

BOX SCORE

Aston, Pa. - After a delayed start, the Knights (4- 4, 1- 3 EW) struggled to maintain the tempo and fell to the Utica Pioneers, 3-1, despite out shooting their opponent 48-25 in their fourth ECAC West conference game of the season.

Utica (5- 2, 2-1 EW) scored their three goals in three different periods. The Pioneers got things started early in the first 20:00 minutes of play when Jeff Pappalardi went five hole, giving the Pioneers a 1-0 lead 1:39 into the game.  The Knights out shot the Pioneers 13-11 in the first period of play but could not get one past Pioneers starting goaltender Adam Dekker.

Utica doubled their lead with three minutes left in the second period when Aaron Jeffery struck on top of the crease giving the Pioneers a 2-0 lead.

The Knights found an answer less than three minutes later when Erik Stoyanvich  (London, ONT) found the back of the net with assists from Neil Trimm (Westmeath, ONT) and Matt Ward (Kemptville, ONT) bringing the Knights within one, 2-1.

The Knights came out in the third and put on tremendous pressure on goaltender Adam Dekker but he was equal to the task turning away all 19 Knight shots.  Utica put the game out of reach when Bryce Dale scored an open net goal with less than a minute left to play, securing the victory for the Pioneers.

The Knights will be back in action next weekend at the Rutland Invitational in Vermont.  They will be playing Tufts University on Saturday, November 24 at 3:00 p.m.
