Casey Named ECAC Player of the Week.

Ice Hockey's Casey, Van Vliet Collect ECAC West Weekly Awards

Nov. 29, 2007

ASTON, Pa. -- Junior forward Kyle Casey (Stratford, Ontario) and senior forward Mark Van Vliet (Dorchester, ONT) of the Neumann College ice hockey team were honored with ECAC West Player of the Week Awards, the league announced (Nov. 27). Casey collected the Player of the Week laurel while Van Vliet picked up honorable mention honors for the first time this season.

In Neumann's wins over Tufts University and Castleton State last weekend (Nov. 24-25), Casey tallied three goals including two on the power play and added one assist. The junior played a major role in helping the Knights win the 1st Annual Rutland Herald Invitational Tournament in Rutland, Vermont. For his efforts Casey was named to the Rutland Herald Invitational All-Tournament Team.

Van Vliet collected two power play goals and two assists in the weekend sweep.  The senior, who is tied for fourth in the national spot light in game-winning goals and is in the top 50 in assists, was a major factor in the Knights' success. Van Vliet joined Casey on the Rutland Herald Invitational All-Tournament Team after the Knights won the championship game, 3-2, against Castleton State.

The Knights will try and expend their two-game winning streak to four this weekend when they host the Lebanon Valley Dutchmen for two games at Ice Works Quad Rinks on Friday and Saturday (Nov. 30-Dec. 1).
