Neumann Drops Season Opener at Stockton

March 7, 2006

Box Score

Stockton, PA- The Neumann Knights (0-1) opened the 2006 men's lacrosse season with non-conference action against Richard Stockton University (2-1) this afternoon.

The Osprey scored the opening goal at the 3:19 mark with a shot from Steve Mazurek. Neumann countered with an unassisted goal by freshman Devin Mossor, his first as a Knight. Stockton answered with three back to back goals, taking a 4-1 lead over the Knights. After shaking off the first game jitters, Neumann was able to capitalize on a successful clear, which allowed Nick Lauletta to connect with Nick Schall who shot low, cutting the Ospreys lead to two.

In the second period the Ospreys took a commanding lead scoring seven consecutive goals. Mossor put a stop to the scoring fury after the rookie received a pass from the veteran Ryan McCauley putting the Knights at the low end of the 11-3 first half score.

Stockton came out big in the third quarter extending their lead to14 after two goals in the first 3 minutes of the period, and a shot off the face off at the 10:45 mark broadened the scoring margin to ten. However, the Knights never gave up. Neumann's Ryan McCauley scored a wrap around goal with eight seconds left in the third quarter shifting the Knights score to five, but not before Richard Stockton's Zulauf slid one past Knights goalie Mike McCauley at the 12:49 mark sending the Knights into the fourth and final quarter down 15-5.

In the final 15 minute of play, Neumann's Ryan McCauley capitalized on a man up opportunity, finding the net on a quick shot from the left side. The Knights however, were unable to stop the afternoon hosts, as Richard Stockton scored three more goals in route to an 18-6 final.

Neumann will return to action at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 11 at Manhattanville College.
