Senior Devin Mossor led the Neumann attack

Knights Come Up short in Home Opener

March 11, 2007

Box Score

Aston, PA - The Neumann College Men's Lacrosse team battled DeSales University in a non-conference match-up on Sunday afternoon in Aston, PA. Despite tremendous play from freshman goalie Matthew Bateman and senior attack Devin Mossor, the Knights came up short by a score of 9-7.

DeSales jumped out to an early two goal lead, after a pair of goals by junior Dan Thomer. They appeared to be on their way to an easy victory, until Mossor scored his first goal of the game on an assist from Jack Winn, to put Neumann on the board with a little over 5 minutes left in 1st quarter.

DeSales opened up the 2nd quarter the same way they did in the 1st. They scored two goals in the first 5 minutes of the quarter to give themselves a 4-1 lead. Down by three, Neumann battled back and answered with two goals of their own. One by freshman Matt Toth, and one by senior Dan Gregg, with an assist from Mossor. However, DeSales finished the half with 3 more goals and the Knights found themselves down by three at half.

Mossor opened up the second half with his 2nd goal of the game and Neumann appeared to be back in the game. However, DeSales scored two more, at the end of the 3rd, to create an uphill battle for the Knights.

Despite two late goals from the Knights, it was not enough to overcome the deficit. Although the Knights lost 9-7, they showed signs of improvement for what could be a promising future.

Neumann will take the field next on Wednesday afternoon when they host Ohio-Wesleyan University.
