Eber Scores the Game Winner in the Knights 8-7 Overtime Win over DeSales

March 15, 2006

Box Score

Center Valley, PA- Neumann College rallied from a 7-4 deficit late in the fourth period to record an 8-7 overtime win over DeSales University in men's lacrosse action on a windy Wednesday afternoon.

Down 7-4 in the fourth, the Knights' Brian Friel (Voorhees, NJ (Eastern High School) scored at 8:53 to trim the Bulldog's lead to two. Devin Mossor (Ridley Park, PA (Ridley) followed that goal with his fifth of the season, at the 5:06 mark, cutting DSU's lead to one.

DeSales won the ensuing face-off and proceeded to try and run the clock out on the offensive end.  After a turnover, DSU had two chances to regain possession of the ball but both clear attempts were intercepted by the Knights. With 16 seconds left on the clock, Neumann's Ryan McCauley (Havertown, PA (Monsignor Bonner) scored the tying goal sending the game into overtime.

DSU won the face-off to start the first overtime period but after calling a timeout to set up a play the Bulldogs failed to get a shot off before turning it over to the Knights.  Neumann College used a timeout on the other end and following the timeout Nate Eber (Syracuse, NY (Corcoran) fired a shot from about 15 yards out on the right side of the net that screamed past the DeSales keeper and into the net for the game-winner.

Neumann enjoyed a 39-32 edge in total shots and grabbed 52 ground balls to just 36 for DeSales.  Junior Ben Conroy (Easton, PA/Moravian Academy) did make 12 saves for the Bulldogs, while his counterpart Mike McCauley totaled 6 saves.

R. McCauley, Eber and Mossor scored twice for Neumann and Friel and Nick Schall Baltimore, MD (Perry Hall) each added one goal.  Josh Jacobs (Innisfil, Ont (Nantyr Shores) had the only assist on the day for NC.

Neumann College returns to action on Saturday, March 18th when they host Wesley College in the first PAC Conference game of the season.  Game time is set for 3:00 pm.
