Neumann Battles Rain and Bobcats in Season Opener :: Despite their efforts the Knights fell short 2-0

FROSTBURG, Md. - The Neumann College (0-1) men's soccer team opened up the 2006 season at the Frostburg State Tournament facing the tournament host in game one of the weekend event. In a contest that ended in a 2-0 loss for the Knights, Neumann battled not only the Bobcats but also had to contend with the inclement weather brought on by hurricane Ernesto.

Junior Luke Devlin (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Calvary Christian) stopped 6 shots in net for the Knights and prevented Frostburg (1-0) from extending their lead at Bobcat Stadium, on Friday evening.

Frostburg went up 1-0 in the 26th minute of the first half. The Bobcats were than denied a second 1^st-half goal in the 42^nd minute of the game when the Knights broke up a Frostburg breakaway opportunity to gain possession. Unfortunately the Knights were unable to capitalize.

Early in the second half Devlin stepped up once again by deflecting another tough shot on goal. However, with the ever strengthening winds and rain, Neumann was unable to keep Frostburg from scoring their second goal in the 89^th minute of play.

Neumann returns to action on Saturday, September 2 at 11:00 am, when they will face Waynesburg State in the Consolation match of the FSU tournament.
