Men's Soccer Suffers First Loss of Season, 2-1, in Overtime

Sept. 13, 2007

Box Score

ASTON, PA - The Neumann College men's soccer team sustained its first loss of the season on Wednesday, falling 2-1 in overtime at Philadelphia Biblical University in Langhorne, PA. The Knights played even with the Crimson Eagles but a through ball from Dan Schlegal with less than six minutes left in the second overtime proved to be the difference.

Neumann went up 1-0 in the first half of play. ECAC Southern Player of the Week Jesse Urquhart scored the first goal of the afternoon at 17:19 off a Mitch Fryling corner kick. The Knights' defense managed to shut down PBU's offense in the remaining 27:41, sending the Knights into the second half up 1-0.

Neumann continued to place pressure on the Crimson Eagles in the second half. However, PBU was able to capitalize on a cross in the 81st minute to knot the game at one.  Both teams battled for the win in regulation but were unable to capitalize sending the game into overtime.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ratliff, Zack stopped four shots in the loss.

Neumann will return to action on Saturday, September 15, at Arcadia University. The game is slated to kick off at 1:00 p.m.
