Tscherne scores his first hat trick of the season for the Knights.

Tscherne Leads Neumann Past Marywood, 5-0

Sept. 14, 2005

Box Score

SCRANTON, PA - John Tscherne (West Grove, PA/Avon Grove) scored the only goal he'd need just 14:34 into the game, but added two more for good measure, as Neumann College rolled to a 5-0 win over host Marywood University Wednesday afternoon in PAC men's soccer action.

Tscherne broke free from the Pacer defense and slid the ball to the left post past diving Marywood keeper Todd Sharbaugh to collect his first goal. Less than two minutes later, Tscherne did the same thing to give the Knights a 2-0 lead. He would add his third goal with less than three minutes remaining as he took a Luke Devlin (Huntingdon Valley, PA/Calvary Christian) punt and went to the goal on another breakaway. Devlin, the Knight's goalkeeper, was credited with the assist.

Patrick Benjamin (Philadelphia, PA/Washington) and Chi Okpala (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) each added a goal for the Knights, who improved to 1-3-1 (1-0-1 PAC). Barry Harvey (Aston, PA/Chichester) and Mike Barbagallo (Bridgeport, NJ/Kingsway Regional) each added assists.

Devlin recorded his first collegiate shut-out win by stopping all eight Marywood shots. Sharbaugh allowed two goals and made two saves in 16 minutes of action for Marywood, while Danny Reynolds made four saves in 77 minutes of action for the Pacers, who fell to 0-4 (0-1 PAC).
