Scott Weaver Scores First Goal of Collegiate Career

Oct. 11, 2006

Box Score

Neumann College scored an early second half goal to tie the Colonels 1-1 before giving up three in route to a 4-1 loss to Wilkes University this afternoon. Freshman Scott Weaver was credited with the Knights lone goal, his first goal of the season, unassisted.

The Wilkes University Colonels, ranked fourth in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association Mid-Atlantic Regional rankings, improved to 10-3 overall while Neumann remains winless in 12 matches after the two teams battled to a 4-1 result in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

Wilkes took a 1-0 lead at 39:57. Neumann tied the match at 1-1 less than ten minutes later when Josh Williams cleared a ball 70 feet down field enabling Scott Weaver to gain control and take credit for the goal.

The Colonels regained the lead only fifty-six seconds later and would add two more goals before the conclusion of the contest.

"Our team is playing hard," stated Assistant Coach Chris Fehrle. "We continue to have some defensive let downs which unfortunately resulted in goals today."

Wilkes held a 23-7 shots advantage and a 10-3 edge in corner kicks. Neumann goalkeeper Josh Williams finished with nine stops, while Wilkes' Dominik Proctor had five saves in net.

Neumann will return to action on Saturday, October 14, at Dover, Delaware at which time the Knights will be hosted by PAC rival Wesley College at 7:00 p.m.
