David Thompson heads the ball into the center of the net to scoring the Knights second goal of the game.

Harvey and Thompson lead Neumann Past Catholic in an Afternoon Non- conference match up

Oct. 20, 2005

Box Score

Aston, Pa. - Sophomore Barry Harvey (Aston, Pa) and Sophomore Dave Thompson (Pt. Pleasant, NJ) each had a goal to defeat Catholic University 2-0 in Aston, Pennsylvania this afternoon. Goalie Josh Williams (Lansdowne, PA) had ten saves for the knights posting his second shut out of the season.

Catholic University nearly scored on a penalty shot late in the first half to tie the game but the kick, taken by Matt Brideau, bounced off the right side of the post and was saved by Williams before a further scoring attempt could be made. That shot would turn out to be Catholic's best scoring chance of the afternoon.

The Knights jumped in front mid way through the first half when Barry Harvey (Aston, Pa) received a pass from John Tscherne (West Grove, Pa) and made a nifty move inside the box. Harvey moved quickly to elude a Cardinals defender and fired a shot into the goal for the Knights first goal of the game.

Neumann led at half time 1-0 in the Non- Conference match up. It was back and forth play until late in the second half when Neumann's Barry Harvey (Aston Pa) fired a corner kick in the center of the box and David Thompson (Point Pleasant NJ) headed it right into the center of the net to score the second goal of the game for Neumann.

Neumann's next match up will be against PAC rival Wesley College on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m., on their home field in Aston Pa. Prior to the afternoon's contest, Neumann will honor graduating senior Matt Backert four his four years with the Knights program.
