ASTON, Pa. - In just his second year at the helm of the Neumann Knights men's soccer program Neumann College's Kevin Sloan was selected by his fellow PAC coaches as the 2007 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. Sloan was accompanied by Neumann Knights Mike Barbagallo, who earned PAC First-Team honors, Jesse Urquhart, who was named to the PAC Second-Team and Barry Harvey, who was named to the All-PAC Sportsmanship Team. Under Sloan's guidance, Neumann College posted a 7-7-4 record in 2007, marking the first .500 season in program history. The Knights reached new heights in 2007 when they traveled to Alvernia College for the program's first playoff appearance, after going 3-3-2 in the PAC. The two teams dueled through 120 minutes of scoreless soccer before proceeding to penalty kicks to determine a winner. Unfortunately, the Knights fell victim to the Crusader's, 3-1, in penalty kicks in the first round of the tournament. Nevertheless, Sloan's fellow college coaches thought enough of his efforts to honor him with 2007 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Coach of the Year status. Mike Barbagallo earned All-PAC honors for the second year in a row. The senior defender was named to the All-PAC Sportsmanship Team following the 2006 season. For his career, Barbagallo is second all-time in assists and third all-time in games started. A member of the armed services Mike Barbagallo will graduate in May with a degree in criminal justice. Jesse Urquhart earned his first All-PAC nod this season. The junior transfer from Camden County Community College led the Knights with 31 points this season. He is third all-time in points and assists and second all-time in goals. He also ranks third in the PAC in assists and is among the top 100 players in NCAA Division III in points and assists. Senior captain Barry Harvey received the Knights' nod for the PAC's All-Conference Sportsmanship honor. This award is presented to one individual on each PAC team who has made the most significant contributions to the well-being of the team in terms of attitude, improvement and leadership. Harvey appeared in 18 games this season and leaves Neumann as the all-time career assists leader. He also ranks second all-time in points and third in goals. |
