April 2, 2007

Box Score

Aston, Pa. - Neumann College hosted PAC rival Eastern University on Monday in men's tennis action. The Knights won 2 of 3 doubles and 3 of 6 singles to edge by Eastern 4-3.

Neumann's Barry Harvey and Matthew Ford won a hard fought match at second doubles. The Knights' duo earned Neumann the doubles point after winning an 8-8 tie breaker, 9-7. That point was the deciding factor for the Knights, who move to 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the conference after Monday's win.

Andrew Bitar and Steve Klenk gave Neumann their first doubles point after defeating the Eagles' Jon Falcone and Taylor Kiser 8-2. With Neumann up 1-0 going into singles play the pressure was on to maintain the lead.

The Knights fell short at No. 1 and No. 2 singles but rallied to straight set wins at No. 3, 4 and 6. Ford earned the Knights first singles point followed by Andrew Bitar who shut down his opponent in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1. Eastern took the win at No. 5 singles but Neumann's Steve Klenk stepped up and earned the Knights 4th point of the day 6-2, 6-1.

Neumann will look to make it four in a row when they travel to Dover, Delaware for a 4:00 p.m. start with Wesley College on Wednesday.
