Neumann Upends Marywood, 5-4

Aston, Pa. - In their final PAC matchup of the season the Neumann Knights men's tennis team (9-3, 6-2) defeated the 2006 PAC Champions, Marywood University, 5-4, for the first time in program history.

 

Neumann came out to a 2-1 lead after earning wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Barry Harvey and Matthew Ford's 8-8 (7-3) win at No. 2 closes out an undefeated PAC season for the pair, marking another first for the program.  

 

The Knight's No. 3 team of Andrew Bitar and Steve Klenk defeated Jeremy Geadrities and Chad McKee 8-2 to put the Knights up 2-1 going into singles play.

 

Neumann battled for the win after falling to the Pacers 3-2 at the conclusion of 1st and 2nd singles. Neumann's Andrew Bitar kept the Knights alive with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 4 making it 3-3 all. Marywood earn the point at No. three to gain an edge but Neumann responded with a 6-3, 6-0 win by Barry Harvey at No. 5 singles and clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.

 

With the win Neumann moves to 9-3 on the season and closes out PAC play with a 6-2 record making the best season in program history.

 

The Knights will return to action at 3:45 p.m. on Monday at Albright College.
