2006 Men's Tennis 6th Singles Champion

Neumann's Barry Harvey Takes the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Championship at 6th Singles

April 22, 2006

Neumann Knight Barry Harvey (Chichester/Aston, PA) upset 1st seed Jeremy Geadrities from Marywood, returning the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference 6th Singles Championship home to Neumann College

Neumann College, which earned the best record in the programs history this season, received the No. 3 seed in this weekend's Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Tournament as a team. Harvey also earned the third seed after completing the season with an overall record of 8-3 and 6-2 in the PAC.

The sophomore from Aston, PA defeated Dan Jones of Wesley College 6-2, 6-3 in the quarter finals and went on to face Carl Smith of Arcadia University 6-0, 6-3 to advance to the finals of the 2006 Men's Tennis Tournament. "I knew I had a good shot at the Championship all year. Coach Goose (Christian Gosseaux) played a significant part in that thought process. He encouraged me on every point and that gave me confidence! He has really turned this team around. He brings out the best in every player and make us all better players," stated Harvey. Harvey defeated Jones 8-6, and lost to Jeremy Geadrities 6-3, 6-0 earlier in the season. "He (Geadrities) killed me in the regular season. This time I controlled my emotions, kept my feet on the ground and rallied for every point! It was the smartest game I have ever played."

Neumann Knights Andrew Finger, John Slinka, Matt Ford, Robert Klenk, Steve Klenk and Andrew Bitar also qualified for the 2006 tournament. Jon Slinka advanced to the semifinals of the tournament at 2nd singles after defeating Phil Snyder from Alvernia 6-2, 6-3. Slinka battled tough but was defeated 6-2, 6-1 in the semifinals.

Note: This is the second men's tennis Championship for Neumann in the past two years. Freshman John Tscherne won the title at 6th single in 2005.
