Neumann College Appoints Christian Gosseaux as New Head Coach

Aug. 23, 2005

Aston, PA - Christian "Goose" Gosseaux, a graduate of DeSales University and two-time coach of the year by the Philadelphia Inquirer and Main Line Times, will be the new head coach at Neumann College for the 2005-06 men's and women's tennis seasons, director of athletics Chuck Sack announced Monday.

"I am very excited to have Coach Gosseaux join the Knights Athletic Staff," said Sack. "I feel that he will provide a competitive edge as we start off on this new era in Knights Tennis. Having graduated from DeSales, he understands what our student-athletes are facing in terms of academic and athletic challenges at an institution like Neumann. He also brings a wealth of competitive experience that will benefit the members of our team."

Gosseaux comes to Neumann with extensive men's and women's tennis experience. "Coach Goose", as he is known to his players, has been named Coach of the Year in 2004 by the Pennsylvania Tennis Coaches Association, in 2003 and 2004 by the Philadelphia Inquirer and 2001 by the Main Line Times. He led the Harriton High School Girl's Tennis Team to three consecutive District One Tennis Championships and to a State Final in 2003. He was responsible for leading the Harriton High School Boy's Tennis Team to an undefeated 21-0 season and a State Championship in 2004. His 2003 and 2004 boy's tennis teams were also named Tennis Team of the Year by the Philadelphia Inquirer, and his 2004 team received the same honor from the Scholastic Play by Play Network.

Gosseaux graduated in 1993 with a B.A. degree in Politics from DeSales, where he was a two-year member of the men's tennis team and four year member and team captain of the Bulldog's basketball team. In 1993 Gosseaux was named to the Freedom Academic All-Conference 1st Team and was All-Conference 2nd Team in his senior year. He went on to earn a master's degree in History at Villanova University in 2003. While in Radnor, Gosseaux worked as a summer sports camp counselor at St. Joseph's University, Villanova, Timberlake Day Camp, Keystone All-Stars and the St. Bernadette Summer League, but the position at Neumann will be his first at the collegiate coaching level.

"I am thrilled for this new and exciting challenge. Chuck Sack has given me a tremendous opportunity by inviting me to join the Neumann community. My goal is to make the men's and women's tennis teams a model of academic and athletic excellence at Neumann College," stated Gosseaux.
