Knights season comes to a close at the ECAC Southern Regional Tournament

Women's Basketball Season Comes to a Close

March 1, 2007

Box Score

In their first appearance in the ECAC Southern Regional Tournament, the Neumann Knights were denied the chance to continue their season. Neumann's 98-73 loss to Albright College ended the Knights best run since the 1987-88 season. Neumann ends the 2006-2007 season 18-10, marking the programs second best season in history.

The Neumann Knights and the Albright Lions had a lot in common going into Wednesday's ECAC Southern Regional in Reading, Pennsylvania.  Both teams lost to the eventual conference champions in their conference's semifinal. Both teams were invited to the ECAC Southern Regional Tournament for the first time in their program's history and both teams entered Wednesday's game with similar overall records. Albright, the third seed and host of the tournament, entered into the tournament game 17-9 and Neumann, the sixth seed, came into the game 18-9.

"We played well tonight," stated Head Coach Frank Farnese. "I am proud of the team and what these women did this season. Albright shot well and we struggled a bit off the first tip and just couldn't recover."

Neumann was down 7 in the first two-minutes of play and was unable to catch the Lions from that point forward. Neumann did manage to close the gap to 3 at the 16-minute mark of the first half and received a strong second half scoring effort from Brittany Whetts however, Neumann could not overtake the evening's host.

Neumann's Brittany Whetts, who was named 2006-07 PAC Rookie of the Year earlier in the week, led the Knights. The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native had a game high 37 points including 27 of her 37 in the second half of play. Teammate Dominique Thompson chipped in with 10-points in the loss.
