Women's Basketball Drops a 63-55 Decision At Widener

Aston, Pa.  - The Neumann College women's basketball team dropped a hard-fought 63-55 decision to cross-county rival Widener University in a non-conference contest in Chester, Pennsylvania Saturday afternoon.  

Sophomore Caitlin Agnew led the way for Neumann as she scored a team-high 15 points and added nine rebounds in the loss.

Widener put the first points on the board but the Knights answered right back taking a nine-point lead (18-9) with 12-minutes left to play in the first half. The Pride responded however, with a 7-1 run over the next four minutes to close the gap to 19-16 with 8:12 left in the half. Neumann's Krista DiRomualdo put a stop to the Pride's scoring run after she was fouled and went to the line scoring two for the Knights. Caitlin Agnew added a layup and followed up with a bucket from the line to give the Knights a 29-25 lead going into half time.  

Widener opened the second half on a quick 7-0 run and over took the lead with 17:05 left on the clock. The two teams battled through four ties before Widener took over the lead for good with 9:40 left in the game.

Sophomore Brittany Whetts scored a double-double 14 points and 18 rebounds for Neumann while Ashley Pearsall scored nine points for the Knights in the loss. Widener was led by Barbara Fleming who was the game's leading scorer with 26 points, eight rebounds and four steals while Beth Dessart Mager added 12 points in the win for Widener.  

With the loss Neumann falls to 1-1 for the season while Widener improves to 1-2. The Knights will return to action on November 26 when they face-off against Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. at 7:00 p.m.
