Dec. 7, 2007

Box Score

Aston, Pa.- The Neumann College Women's Basketball Team (3-5) fell to the Juniata College Eagles, 80-64, on Friday night.  The Knights could not contain the Eagles as they shot 51.7% from the field and 47.1% from three point range.

Claudia McDowell led the Eagles (4-2) with 26 points. The Knights were led by Brittany Whetts (Bartram/Philadelphia, Pa.) who scored 18 points and 7 rebounds.

Neumann opened the game with a 6-point run and took a 12-6 lead in the first five-minutes of play behind a 6-point effort from Whetts.

The Eagles closed the gap on the Knights and overtook the lead at the 12 minute mark. Ali Meckey and Jill Walsh each landed a three-pointer and Jen Hnatuck scored a jumper off an assist from Mindy Warner to take a 15-14 lead over the Knights. From that point the Knights were unable to contain the Eagles offense which took a 43-21 lead over the Knights with two-minutes left to play in the half.

Neumann managed to score six more in the final minutes of the half but went into the locker room down 16, 45-29.

The Eagles came out of the break and continued to dominate the Knights as they went up as much as 30 (65-35), midway through the second half.

The Knights did not give up as they trimmed the lead down to 13 (75-62) but the Eagles held strong holding on to a 16-point lead and an 80-64 victory.

Coach Franese was proud of his players in the second half. "Our team did not give up, we made some coaching decisions to put in some of our reserves and they played great, to trim the lead to 13 was all we could ask for."

The Knights will sit idle until the 29th of December when they travel to Catholic University for a 3:00 p.m. tip-off.
