Neumann's Basketball Winning Streak Broken

Dec. 19, 2006

Box Score

Aston, Pa. - The Neumann Knights suffered just their second loss of the season, 56-46, in a non-conference match up against the Seahawks of St. Mary's College of Maryland at the Bruder Gymnasium this evening. The 10-point game breaks an eight-game winning streak for the Knights.

Neumann shot 41.7 percent in the first half, holding the lead over the Seahawks for most of the half. The Knights' largest lead came with just 59 seconds remaining after Mary Beth Szczesny shot a left side ball, good for three and Ashley Pearsall followed with a field goal off a Kylynn McNichol assist. The Seahawks battled back to end the first half down one, 23-22.

Neumann's Dorothy Rozier opened the scoring for Neumann in the second half followed by Brittany Whetts who had assistance from Knights' senior Kim Hinkle forming a 27-24 lead over the visitors. However, after battling back and forth the Knights were unable to stop the Seahawks from going on a 10-point run late in the second half. Neumann closed out the game down 56-46.

Neumann will be off for the holidays and will return to action on December 28 in Daytona, Florida.
