Aston, Pa. - Brittany Whetts of the Neumann Knights women's basketball team, was named the 2006-2007 PAC Rookie of the Year today, marking the second such honor for the Knights in last three years.

 

Whetts averaged 15.3 points per game and 8.70 rebounds per game this season. She ranks in the top 100 among NCAA Division III women's basketball players for points scored and leads the PAC in overall scoring (438) and rebounding (232). The Philadelphia Pennsylvania native is also ranked fourth in blocks (26) in just her first season as a Knight.

 

Among rookies, Whetts was first in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, and blocked shots.

 

In addition to her individual accomplishments, Whetts helped lead the Knights to the best record since 1987-1988 (20-11). She is a three-time PAC Player of the Week and earned ECAC Southern Player of the Week honors on December 11, 2006 after scoring a career high 42 points, just three shy of the single game scoring record for Neumann College.  

 

Whetts and the Knights will head to the ECAC Women's Basketball Southern Regional on Wednesday, February 28, hosted by Albright College. Tip off is set for 7:00 p.m.
