April 21, 2007

Aston, Pa. - The Neumann College women's basketball team held their end of the year banquet Friday night, April 20 in the Schmidt Room of the Living and Learning Center on the College's campus.

The night began with a meet and greet, followed by dinner and awards. Senior Kim Hinkle and 2007 PAC Rookie of the Year Brittany Whetts were named Most Valuable Players while Caitlin Agnew received the Knights' most prestigious honor, the St. Francis and Clare award.

Brittany Whetts, who was named the 2007 PAC Rookie of the Year, averaged 15.3 points and 8.70 rebounds per game this season. She ranked in the top 100 among NCAA Division-III women's basketball players for points scored and led the PAC in overall scoring (438) and rebounding (232). Whetts helped lead the Knights to the best record since 1987-1988 (20-11) and is an ECAC Southern Player of the Week selection and three-time PAC Player of the Week selection.

Hinkle, who will graduate in May with a degree in sport management, led the team in assists (102) and steals (51) this season. The 2006-2007 co-captain and co-MVP had a career high ten assists against Eastern and five steals against Cabrini in conference play. She finished her career ranked sixth on the school's assists list with 307.

The Neumann College women's basketball team finished the season with an 18-10 overall record and an 11-5 PAC mark, good enough for a fifth place finish. The Knights reached the semifinals of the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Tournament before losing to eventual champion Gwynedd-Mercy College. They closed out their season at the ECAC Regional Tournament after receiving their first ECAC postseason berth in head coach Frank Farnese's second year at the helm.
