Aston, Pa. - The six seeded Neumann College field hockey team made the trek to Dallas, Pa. early this morning in the pouring rain for the first round of the PAC Field Hockey Championship Playoffs, hosted by the three seed Misericordia University. The Knights were hopeful, looking to avenge their 3-0 regular season loss to the Cougars earlier this year. As the rain ceased and the clouds crept away Neumann was seemingly in the driver's seat, controlling the ball much of the first half. With six saves from senior goal keeper Chelsea Ward, the Knights were tied with no score at the half. Eight minutes into the second half the Cougars pounced on Neumann's defense and scored the lone goal of the game. Unfortunately, despite some well played opportunities Neumann was unable to capitalize in the remaining minutes of the game. This loss marks the end of the season for the Neumann Knights. Chelsea Ward was stellar in goal with a total of thirteen saves. After the game Head Coach Sarah Madrak had this to say about her team's performance. "Although this is a tough loss the team played very well. I'm proud of each one of the girls, especially the seniors, for working so diligently and making it this far. I'm hopeful for next year knowing that we have a solid core to build on- but I certainly will miss each one of the seniors and wish them all the best that life has to offer." Neumann ends their season 7-14 and 5-5 in the PAC. |
