DiCicco (South Dennis, NJ/Middle Township) score's the game winner in the 25th minute.

Neumann Advances to Semifinal Round of PAC Championship Tournament

Oct. 29, 2005

Box Score

The #6 Neumann Knights defeated #3 Wesley College 1-0 in the first round of the PAC Championship Tournament. Today's playoff win was the first of its kind in program history and avenges a 3-2 overtime loss to the Wolverines in regular season play.

The Knights started off strong scoring the first and only goal needed to keep their season going in the 25th minute of the game. Freshman Rachael DiCicco scored after being set up by senior Brandy McCreary who was awarded a penalty corner just prior to the goal. McCreary's pass allowed DiCicco to slap the ball past Wesley's LeAnne Hyslop for the 1-0 win. DiCicco's goal was only her second of the season and her first game winning goal of her colligate career.

"The team really deserves this, stated Head Coach Carol Digirolamo. The girls had a rough start in the beginning of the season and they fought hard to keep focus. This is the first time in four years that Neumann has made it to the playoffs and never before has Neumann's field hockey team made it to the semifinals. This is really a great accomplishment not just for us, but for all our alumni and our fans." We are looking forward to Tuesday.

Though the Knights were out shot 17-7 and allowed Wesley to have an 8-1 advantage on corners, the Knights proved that it is quality not quantity that will keep your season going.

Neumann heads to Reading, Pennsylvania on Wednesday when they will be hosted by #1 Alvernia College in the semifinals of the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Championship Tournament beginning at 2:00 p.m.
