Neumann Knights Among Top 100 in Division-III GPA for 2005-2006.

Glen Allen, VA.- The Neumann College women's field hockey team achieved a 3.404 grade point average in the classroom to earn a place on the 2005 NFHCA Division III National Academic Division III Team GPA listing. The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieve a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2005-06 academic year. The Knights collectively placed in the top 100 among all Division III programs in team GPA.


The honor was announced by the NFHCA from its office in Glen Allen, Virginia, on February 27.

In addition to the team honor, 3 Knights achieved a cumulative grade point average of 4.0 and 11 achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher to earn a place on the 2005 NFCA National Academic Scholar-Athlete Division III Team. The National Academic Squad program recognizes those collegiate student-athletes who have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2005-06 academic year. The Following have all earned a place on the academic squad.

Samantha Lafferty (Glenolden, PA/Interboro),

 

"I am extremely proud of my team. They worked incredibly hard on and off the field. They have a lot of pressure on them in the fall to perform at their best on the field and in the classroom. This is a great honor," stated Head Coach Carol Di Girolamo.

 

The Neumann Knights finished the 2005 campaign with a 7-13 overall record and advanced to the semifinals of the PAC Field Hockey Tournament for the first time in program history, after a 1-0 defeat of 2004 PAC Champion Wesley College, in the PAC first round. 

 

Senior Samantha Lafferty led the Knights in assists this season with eight and Ashlee Hodge became the all time defensive saves leader with ten career defensive saves. All 14 student-athletes were selected to the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Scholar Athlete Honor Roll while Knuttel and teammate Amanda Biagi were named to the All-Conference Field Hockey Team.
