McCreary sets up the game winning goal for the Knights

Field Hockey Rolls Past Division-II Philadelphia University 2-1

Oct. 2, 2005

Philadelphia, PA - Neumann College scored a goal in each half to defeat the Rams of Philadelphia University Saturday afternoon 2-1 in non conference field hockey action in Philadelphia, PA.

The win moves the Knights to 3-10 overall, while Philadelphia University moves to 2-9 on the season.

Philadelphia University clearly dominated the first half of the game, out shooting the Knights 14-7. Taking seven corners in the half and keeping the ball in Knights territory, this game proved that sometimes it is not about quantity but quality that proves to be the winning element, as the Knights brought home their second road win of the season.

Senior Brandy McCreary and sophomore Amanda Biagi proved that theory. The duo combined for 6 of the Knights 14 shots on goal, connecting to score both goals in the win. To start the scoring off McCreary sent a pass across the circle to Biagi who powered the ball into the net six minutes into the contest for a 1-0 lead. That lead would hold up for the remainder of the half due to the stellar defensive efforts of the Knights and freshman goalkeeper Chelsea Ward, who had 10 of 20 saves in the first half.

In the second half McCreary set up Biagi once again, to score what would become the game winner, off a penalty corner in the 44th minute. McCreary passed off the corner shot to Biagi who took a direct shot at the cage and past Ram's goalkeeper Jessica Snyder for the 2-0 lead. As the clock ran down, the Ram's offense managed to avoid the shutout scoring with 16 minutes left to play, however the powerful defensive play of the Knights fended off any further Ram goals.

The Knights will play again on Wednesday when they travel to Rosemont College at 4 p.m.
