Aston, Pa. - For the third consecutive season the Neumann Knights field hockey team will head to the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference playoffs.
The Knights have received the sixth seed in the six-team field and will take on third seed, Misericordia University on Saturday, Oct. 27, in Dallas, Pa.
In the other semifinal, No. 4 Gwynedd-Mercy College will host No. 5 Cabrini College also at 2:00 p.m.
The Knights have made the playoffs the past three seasons. Head Coach Sarah Madrak states, "Annual appearances [in the playoffs] are something that the team can start to expect. We have both a strong pool of starters and bench players to draw from. Each member of the team will have to be a factor in order for us to find success in the post season."
The Knights have been led this season by Lauren Hood with 26 points (12 goals, 2 assist), Rachael DiCicco with 19 points (7 goals, 5 assists) and Kerri Sinclair with 18 points (7 goals, 4 assist). The have out scored their opponents 47-41 and have earned a .630 shots on goal percentage as a team. On the defensive end, the Knights have tallied 23 defensive saves- Kaitlyn Murphy coming up with 8 on her own.
The Knights 7-13 overall record and 5-5 mark in the PAC includes a number of game and season highs to equal the success that the Knights have found this season. Chelsea Ward recorded a season high 16 saves against Cabrini on Oct. 17. As a team Neumann recorded a season high 33 points verse Rosemont on Sept. 12 which included 15 goals and 3 assists. The 2007 Knights broke the program's season goals record at 47 and the team now lays claim to the most shutouts in a season (5).
Saturday's 1st-round playoff match up will mark the first show down between these two teams in post season play. Misericordia University, who will host Neumann at 2:00 p.m., leads the regular season series 9-2 over the Knights.
