Mel Brunet earns her fourth win of the season.

Brunet Helps Knights Defeat Williams, 2-1

Jan. 19, 2008

Aston, Pa.- Freshman Goaltender Mel Brunet saved 33 shots for the Knights to help Neumann advance past Williams College 2-1 at Ice Works Arena Friday night.  Kristen Gauthier and Vicki Scott provided the goals for Neumann in the victory.

"I felt that this is one of the better games we have played all season. The women really stepped up and have come together as a team.  However, we must stay out of the penalty box to have a chance tomorrow," stated Head Coach Matt Kennedy.

The Knights scored the only first period goal when Kristen Gauthier cashed in a goal on the top of the crease with a pinpoint pass from Robyn Armstrong at 15:54 taking it a 1-0 lead.

Neumann then went up 2-0 in the second period when Viki Scott sent home a rebound doubling the Knights lead.   Mallory Green had a great opportunity for Williams College but Mel Brunet denied the opportunity pushing the puck wide of the net.

Williams would finally strike with only 00:04 left on the clock in the second period after jamming away at a puck that was just under Brunet to close in on the Knights.

Mel Brunet would not let the goal phase her as she would shutout Williams College in the 3rd period helping the Knights hold on to a 2-1 victory at home.

The Knights will be back in action tomorrow against Williams College at 2:00 pm to finish the weekend series.
