Knights Quest for 1st ECAC West Championship Appearance Halted

March 4, 2007

Plattsburgh, NY - Neumann College wanted nothing more then to break their four-year ECAC West semi-final winless streak when they earned the right to play Plattsburgh State, who was the first seed in the 2006-07 tournament, at the conclusion of the regular season. However Saturday's outcome would not prove favorable for the Knights, who were seeded fourth in this year's tournament.

The Knights came out strong in the first 20-minutes of play but were unable to stop the Cardinals from taking a 1-0 lead just before the 16th minute of play in the opening period. Junior goaltender Teresa White turned away 8 shots in the first period, allowing just the one goal while Neumann's offense made five attempts but were unable to find the back of the net.

The tournament host went up 2-0 late in the second period and added a third in the opening minutes third period. Neumann's Robyn Armstrong helped the Knights avoid a shutout at 7:34 when she scored her fifth and final goal of the season unassisted. Unfortunately for the Knights, her attempt to close in on the Cardinals' lead came a little too late as Plattsburgh advanced to the Championship with a 3-1 win over Neumann.

Neumann ends the season 10-13-1 and 8-6-0 in conference play. "This is obviously not the outcome we were hoping for," stated Head Coach Matthew Kennedy. This team (Neumann) was in it to win it but we just couldn't capitalize when we had the chance."

The ECAC West Championship will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, 2007.
