Women's Hockey Falls 6-1 in Season Opener

Aston, Pa. - The Neumann College women's hockey team was defeated, 6-1, Saturday night at the Ice Works Quad Arena in Aston, Pennsylvania.

 

Five third period goals by ECAC West rival Plattsburgh State, proved to be the difference, as the Cardinals to improved to 1-0 on the season. The Knights fell to 0-1 as both teams opened the season in ECAC West action this evening.

 

The Knights' Kaitlin Hein (West Chester, Pa.) opened up scoring on the night, sending a shot from the top of circle to the back of the net for the 1-0 lead at the 13:18 mark of the first period. Plattsburgh answered back less than four minutes later making in a 1-1 game.

 

After a quiet second period, Plattsburgh came out in the third period, with a quick shot off of the face off for the 2-1 lead. The Cardinals extended their lead scoring 4 more unanswered goals, ending the night up 6-1.

 

The Cardinals out-shot the Knights, 34-15, with Neumann's Teresa White stopping 28 of the 34 shots. Plattsburgh's Breanne Doyle finished with 14 saves.

 

The two teams face-off again tomorrow afternoon at Ice Works Arena in Aston, Pennsylvania at 3:00 p.m.
