A Three-Goal 2nd Period Leads Knights to Victory

Nov. 12, 2006

OSWEGO, NY - Neumann College (2-2-0) defeated the SUNY Oswego Lakers (3-3-1) in the second game of its weekend series, 5-2. The Knights headed into today's game with a 2-0 win against the Lakers last night.

Intense back and forth action in the first period of this afternoon's contest resulted in a draw between the two conference opponents.

The Knights exploded in the second period, controlling play both offensively and defensively.  At 1:51 into the period Neumann's Chelsea Ward (Willingboro, NJ) scored the first goal of the day, with help from teammates Holly Williams (Georgetown, ONT) and Robyn Armstrong (Sudbury, ONT). Less than two minutes later, Neumann's Carly Fitzsimmons (Capreol, ONT) put one past Oswego's goaltender Erin Robson, allowing the Knights to go ahead by two. Vicki Scott (Scarborough, ONT) extended the Knights lead to 3-0 when she scored the eventual game winner at 15:07.

SUNY Oswego's Stephanie Esposito helped the Lakers avoid a shut out when she scored with less than four minutes left in the second period. Esposito's goal closed out scoring in the second period with Neumann up 3-1.

The Knights headed into third period with confidence. At 12:02 Neumann's Kristin Gauthier (Warwick, RI) scored the Knights fourth goal of the game, with help from teammates Kaitlin Hein (West Chester, PA) and Sam May (Whitestone, NY). Neumann extended their lead 5-1, less than five minutes later when Jenelle Marier (Sudbury, ONT) scored Neumann's final goal of the night, on a power play at 16:27.

With just 16 second left to play, Oswego's Jessica Lister put one past former teammate and Knights' starting goaltender Teresa White, closing the gap on the Neumann's lead. Unfortunately for Lister and the Lakers, Neumann ended the night with the win, 5-2, setting their current record at 2-2-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the ECAC West.

The Knights will head back out on the road to play Bowdoin College in a two game series November 25th and 26th.
