Knights Complete Weekend Sweep of Cortland, 7-3

Cortland, NY - Junior Kristin Gauthier scored two goals and added two assists to lead the Neumann women's ice hockey team to a 7-3 win over SUNY Cortland Saturday afternoon in ECAC West action. With the victory, the Knights swept the weekend series and improved to 4-4 overall and 4-2 in the  conference. The Red Dragons fell to 0-7-1 and 0-5-1.

 

Junior Samantha May also scored twice for the Knights, and sophomores Carly Fitzsimmons and Jenelle Marier added one goal and one assist each. Junior Jessica McAllister tallied a goal and junior Allison Tyndall contributed two assists. Junior goalie Teresa White made 31 saves.

 

For Cortland, junior Erin Fleury scored two goals, and freshman Maggie Henty netted her first career goal. Junior goalie Olivia Nuzzo stopped 31 shots.

 

Neumann opened up a 3-0 lead midway through the first period, but the Red Dragons closed out the period with two goals to make it a 3-2 game. After no scoring in the second period, the Knights netted four straight goals in the final period, two each from Gauthier and May, to put the game away. Cortland's Erin Fleury completed the scoring with her second of the game just 16 seconds after Neumann's seventh goal.

 

Neumann will return to action at 7:00 p.m. next Friday at Middlebury.
