Neumann Advances to Championship of Saint Michaels' Holiday Tournament

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - Neumann College record a victory at the second annual Saint Michael's College Holiday Tournament on Saturday at Cairns Arena.

 

Neumann defeated the tournament host, 3-1, in Saturday's opener. With the win the Knights advance to the Championship tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. against No. 8 Utica College

 

Neumann junior captain Carolyn Fauteux's (Aurora, Ontario) unassisted goal late in the first period gave Neumann (5-6) the lead for good. Sophomores Vicki Scott (Scarborough, Ontario) and Jenelle Marier (Sudbury, Ontario) also scored for the Knights, while fellow sophomore Carly Fitzsimmons (Capreol, Ontario) tallied a pair of assists. Junior Teresa White (Salem, Ore.) stopped 13 shots between the pipes to earn the victory.

 

For Saint Michael's (4-6), senior Melissa Gagne (Eliot, Maine/Berwick Academy) notched an unassisted goal, her fourth tally of the season, to pull the Purple Knights to within one goal with 6:39 left in the contest. Sophomore Kristen Salierno (Ridgefield, Conn.) turned aside 25 shots as Saint Michael's lost its third straight.

 

The tournament concludes on Sunday, as Saint Michael's and Colby meet in the Consolation Game at 1 p.m., followed by ECAC West rivals Neumann and Utica in the Championship Game at 4 p.m.
